Bomb maker who lost hands prohibited from arming himself

The Columbus man who recently lost both his hands in a homemade bomb-making attempt gone wrong has been prohibited from arming himself with guns or explosives.

Seems kind of unnecessary, but I suppose you can never be too careful.

Alphonso Mobley Jr., 26, believes he is a “sovereign citizen,” meaning that he thinks he is not subject to state or federal laws even though he lives in the United States.

He was given a $2 million bail this morning, disproving his beliefs.

His accomplice, Roberto Innis Jr., has also been charged. His testimony indicated the pair wanted to use explosives to rob an armored car or a bank.

The explosive mixture in question is the same chemical that was used in the Brussels airport attacks.

4/7/16: UPDATE: Explosion was homemade bomb, not meth

In a shocking update to Tuesday’s supposed meth lab explosion, it was revealed this morning that the blast on the East Side was actually related to a homemade bomb.

Bomb squad investigators said no other explosives were found in the vacant house, but precursors to homemade explosives were found.

When Alphonso Mobley blew off both of his hands during the bomb-making process, his accomplice, Roberto Innis Jr., called 911. Authorities were quickly on the scene.

Both men align themselves with the Sovereign Citizens Movement. Its members believe that they are not subject to state or federal laws even though they live in the United States.

Authorities say they’re not ruling out the possibility that the men were planning a terrorist plot.

Six surrounding homes were evacuated following the explosion, which prompted investigations by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

4/5/16: Meth lab explosion hospitalizes one

An explosion in a Columbus meth lab seriously injured one person this morning, sending them to the hospital.

Emergency crews were at the scene at about 10:30 this morning, responding to a 911 call placed by a person who said something exploded in her friend’s hand.

The explosion reportedly occurred in the kitchen of the house.

With two Columbus meth lab busts occurring in the last week alone, it apparently needs to be said: you are not Walter White. Breaking Bad is not real life. Making meth is not an easy way to make a quick buck.

Don’t even try to make meth. Just don’t.
