Columbus officers save suicidal veteran
Two Columbus police officers stationed at the Columbus Veteran’s Affairs hospital leapt into action when a veteran threatened to take his own life.
The veteran left the Columbus VA and scaled the fence of a nearby AEP substation, where he said he would electrocute himself.
Columbus VA Police Officers James Marcinko, Sgt. Joe Murray and Lt. Michael Arrowood climbed an 8-foot chain link fence topped with barbed wire in pursuit of the man, who had began to climb a second fence–the only thing separating him from deadly high voltage conductors.
Officer Marcinko broke both of his ankles from the eight-foot drop, and Officer Arrowood dislocated his shoulder, but they reached the man in time.
“We strive to be the best we can, we help anybody; all lives matter to us,” said Lt. Arrowood.
The suicidal man, an Army veteran, is currently in the Chillicothe VA under observation.
