CPD doubles patrols in wake of Dallas sniper attacks

The Columbus Police Department announced today that it would be doubling patrols across the city in the wake of the deadly sniper attack in Dallas that killed 5 police officers and wounded seven others.

Police said that even routine incidents will be investigated by two or more officers. If two officers are not present in the same squad car, two cars will respond.

Some deputies who work in jails will be put in squad cars, and plans are being made to approve additional deputies.

This morning the Columbus Police Academy held its 125th police recruit graduation, where Mayor Andrew Ginther and Police Chief Kim Jacobs spoke.

Both Ginther and Jacobs condemned the attacks in Dallas, and called for peace in Columbus.

“We have to stop the divisive attacks on people because of who they are,” Jacobs said.
