Families sue Olentangy School district following teacher’s sex crimes

Three families are suing former third grade teacher Matthew Rausenberg for committing sex crimes against his students.

But the litigation doesn’t stop there–they’re also suing the Olentangy School District and administrators for not reporting inappropriate behavior to children’s services.

The attorney for the families say that district administrators failed to notify the proper authorities when allegations were first made.

1/28/16: Ex-Olentangy teacher sentenced to 76 years for sex abuse

On Monday Matthew Rausenberg was found guilty of 41 counts of sexual abuse committed against at least nine of his students. Today he received his sentence: 76 years without parole–a justified life sentence for the 40-year-old.

Formerly a respected and trusted second-grade teacher at Arrowhead Elementary School, Rausenberg, known as “Mr. R.,” was arrested in March following a Delaware County Sheriff’s Office investigation that was sparked by a tip by one of his former students.

Several more courageous students have come forward since March, whose testimony helped indict Rausenberg.

“This man wouldn’t know a boundary if it came up and bit him,” Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien said.

“I’m grateful to God knowing that other children like her won’t be hurt,” said the mother of one victim.
