Firefighters Battle German Village Bar in Flames

Around 5 AM this morning the second story of Plank’s Bier Garten in German Village caught fire resulting in $50,000 in damage.

Firefighters were still accessing the damage until late this afternoon and, according to NBC4i, the fire started in the upstairs portion of the site and not the kitchen.  It allegedly started in their utility room.

The business has suffered severe smoke and water damage. No official word on how long repairs could take or if they will reopen before the holidays.

Official cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed but firefighters did tell NBC4i that what they found was a working fire, or a fire that takes considerable effort to extinguish.

On initial investigation, the fire has been deemed accidental.

Most chiefs who arrive on the scene first will declare a working fire (visible smoke & flame) before the companies arrive – the anticipation being that all companies will work when they get there.

The son of the restaurateur Plank family, William Plank, purchased the building in 1960 that would become Planks Bier Garten. The Plank family has been part of the Ohio restaurant business for three generations.

For those that are interested in potentially helping Plank’s Bier Garten, leave your comments/idea below on how.
