Gahanna Man Sentenced After Setting Ex on Fire

614now Staff

A Gahanna man was charged with setting his ex on fire and has subsequently pleaded “no contest” to the charges.

The prosecutors allege that Michael Slager poured gasoline over his ex-girlfriend, Judy Malinowski, before lighting her on fire. Initially Slager claimed the fire “was accidental.”

According to reports, the judge described Slager as having “no soul.”

Currently, there are no murder charges but if Malinowski dies, which according to the family is likely due to the severity of her burns, they plan to pursue murder charges.

Slager’s attorney emphasised after the “no contest” plea, that it does not legally constitute an admission guilt, but that he simply does not dispute the charges. The major point of his no contest pleas was to prevent Malinowski from testifying under oath for a jury which could have led to a harsher sentence.

Slager was sentenced to 11 years in prison, with a full year of “jail credit.”
