Missile defense system could come to Ohio
The Missile Defense Agency is surveying three sites across the U.S. to house its new East Coast Missile Defense System, and one state representative is pushing for an Ohio location.
Representative John Boccieri (D-Poland) wants Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center in Ravenna, Ohio to be the new hub of intercontinental ballistic missile defense for the East Coast.
The U.S. currently has missile defense platforms in Alaska and California.
Rep. Boccieri says the site will be a strategic boon to the East Coast, and it will bolster the economy in northeast Ohio.
The decision by the MDA is expected to be made in the next few days. The other sites being considered are Fort Drum in New York and Fort Custer Training Center in Michigan.
