A Hilliard student knocked out the competition in the preliminary rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee after spelling some tricky words, like tempeh and gryllus and is now headed to the finals.

Lipika Narisetti, an eighth grader at Hilliard Heritage Middle School, placed 22nd at last year’s National Spelling Bee, and has a chance to top her own record this time around.

An avid violin player and a member of her school’s track team, Narisetti hopes to one day become a neurosurgeon.

For the chance to see Narisetti and other top spellers from around the nation, tune in to ESPN tonight at 8 p.m. to catch the conclusion of the final round.
