No ifs, ands, or butts: Columbus Zoo bans cigarettes

In an effort to keep cigarette smokers in their natural habitats, the Columbus Zoo has banned all smoking, even e-cigarettes, according to a press release sent out this afternoon.

“Our mission to lead and inspire by connecting people and wildlife starts with the health and safety of the animals in our care, Zoo guests and employees,” said Columbus Zoo president and CEO Tom Stalf in the press release.

The decision also applies to Zoombezi Bay and The Wilds.

Previously there were a handful of designated smoking areas in the parks.
