Police officer rushed to hospital after biting into ‘glass sandwich’
A Columbus police officer was rushed to the hospital after cutting his mouth on shards of glass when biting into a sandwich at Lincoln Café on East Long Street Monday afternoon.
The officer is expected to be okay, but he was held in Grant Medical Center overnight for recovery and testing
He told police the grisly details: that he heard a crunching sound when biting into the sandwich, and found glass on it when he checked. When he checked his mouth, he found it was bleeding.
The restaurant was shut down afterwards while police conducted interviews.
According to Columbus Public Health investigators, small pieces of broken glass were found under a drying rack where clear glass plates dried, and some plates had chips on the rim. The broken glass has since been cleaned up.
Though the police investigation continues, no charges have been filed, and police believe the incident was not intentional.
