The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning parents who use homeopathic teething tablets and gels because they may pose health risks, including seizures and breathing issues.
The FDA recommends parents stop using these products altogether and instead consult their doctors for advice on how to treat teething symptoms.
According to the FDA, homeopathic teething tablets are sold by CVS, Hyland’s and possibly online.
Parents are warned to seek medical care for their child if the child uses homeopathic tablets and experiences:
- Difficulty breathing
- Lethargy
- Excessive sleepiness
- Muscle weakness
- Skin flushing
- Constipation
- Difficulty urinating
- Agitation
Parents and healthcare professionals are encouraged to report adverse events with the use of homeopathic teething tablets or gels to the FDA.
