The boy has denied the charges through his attorney, though witnesses identified him as the shooter the day of the shooting.

Authorities have said that a motive was identified, though it has not been made public.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said he could be sentenced to the Ohio Department of Youth Services until his 21st birthday if he’s convicted of attempted murder.

3/1/16: Teen charged with six felonies following cafeteria shooting

Four students were wounded Monday at Madison High School in Butler County. Two were shot in the school lunchroom, and two may have been injured by shrapnel.

The students were flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where they are expected to recover from the reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

The 14-year-old suspect fled the scene, throwing the gun away. The student has since been taken into custody and the weapon has been recovered.

The suspect was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of inducing panic and one count of making terroristic threats.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said there was a motive in the shooting, but was mum on details.

There is no class today at Madison High, allowing students to recover from the traumatic and stressful experience.

At a news conference this morning, Madison Local School District superintendent Curtis Philpot said the school staff is taking steps to help students feel confident in their safety at school, with the goal of “returning to as much normalcy as possible.”

To that end, the school is hosting a “walk-through” of the school for students and families tonight. When students return to class tomorrow, crisis counseling will be available, and “additional supports” will be present in the cafeteria.

Expect updates in this developing story.
