USA Today: Kasich tops list of Republicans to beat Clinton

Good news for John Kasich: according to a poll released by USA Today, the Ohio Governor was the highest-ranked Republican presidential candidate to beat Hillary Clinton.

But interestingly enough, Kasich is Republicans’ fourth-favorite candidate they would like to see elected, ranking behind Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio.

This dichotomy arises from the fact that Kasich takes a moderate, bipartisan stance on issues like Medicaid expansion and immigration, making him less loved by the Republican base, but more appealing to the country at-large.

Even though Kasich has a 10-point margin of victory against Clinton, he has only a three-point margin of victory against Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, according to the poll’s hypothetical elections.

Notably, as many as 10 percent of voters marked their answers “undecided” in the poll, so expect these numbers to shift as the election progresses and voters become better-educated.
