Amount of Adults that Admit to Smoking Weed Has Doubled

According to a new Gallup Poll, the amount of adults smoking weed has nearly doubled in three years, going from 7% in 2013 to 13% in 2016.

Surprisingly, only 43% of adults admit to having tried it. This seems low to me. The random sample consisted of 1,023 adults, ranging from 18 years old and up, with no bias on location. The questions that were reported in the Gallup poll were based on approx. 500 adults.

Some of the key findings in Gallup’s poll:

  • Age factors into usage. 1 out of 5 adults under 30 currently admit to smoking marijuana.
  • Men admit smoking more than Women – 12% to 7%
  • 2% of Weekly churchgoers smoke recreationally.
  • The more you make, the more likely it is you smoke recreationally. 18% of people that make over $30K smoke compared to 14% of those that make under $30k .
  • Those that never or seldom go to Church are the most likely to have tried marijuana.

This comes ahead of a June vote that officially legalized Medical Marijuana in Ohio.

This November, Arizona, California and Nevada will vote on various bills that would legalize recreational use of marijuana.

Last year, a law that would have legalized recreational use failed in Ohio.
