Downtown parking gets even tighter as Marconi Garage set to close

There are currently about 35,000 parking spaces downtown for the 82,000 workers and 7,500 residents who need to be there on a daily basis. Carpool or no, that’s a cramped situation.

And it’s about to get even tighter.

The crumbling, four-story Marconi Garage located at 170 Marconi Blvd is set to close at the end of May, removing another 650 spots from downtown.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform you that the Marconi Garage will be ceasing operations in the very near future,” read a flyer posted by garage management. “To the extent that we are able to do so, we hope to remain open beyond the end of May, but we are unable to give you any assurances with respect to such continued operations.”

Notably, the parking garage is next door to the building site of the new Michael B. Coleman Governmental Center, which will include a seven-story parking garage.
