Future tech: hyperloop could get you across Ohio in under 15 minutes
Hi-tech transportation startup Hyperloop One just tested its first namesake propulsion system in Las Vegas, and the results look promising.
The hyperloop is a concept originally thought out by Tesla founder Elon Musk, who envisioned a train-like car that levitates above the tracks, and is propelled forward by electromagnets.
Similar technology is used on roller coasters that shoot riders forward from a dead stop, but the hyperloop would be expanding these ideas to a grand scale.
Hyperloop One aims to get from zero to 400 mph in two seconds, reaching a top speed of over 700 mph.
That means you could get from Columbus to Cincinnati in under 10 minutes, from Columbus to Cleveland in 12 minutes, and from Columbus to Chicago in 30.
The startup has the ambitious goal of rolling out passenger transport cars within five years, though some scientists say it might be a while before we see this new technology broadly enacted.
