New Acura SUV to be manufactured in central Ohio

Acura, the luxury division of automaker Honda, debuted its new MDX SUV at the New York International Auto Show this Wednesday, and it’s not just Tokyo that has a stake in the new vehicle.

It turns out that the new MDX will be manufactured in central Ohio for the first time at the company’s East Liberty plant.

The automaker says that the 2017 model of the MDX is an ambitious redesign of previous models, using modifications to the interior and exterior to play up the luxury appeal of the vehicle.

Also new in the 2017 design is the incorporation of an optional gas-electric hybrid powertrain that strikes a balance between fuel efficiency and quick response when accelerating from stops.

All in all, the development is a victory for central Ohio, and for American auto manufacturing.
