Pack up the picnic: Iconic Longaberger building vacated
All that’s left of the sandwiches are crusts, crumbs from the chips, and soda cans crushed.
After years of working in the iconic, basket-shaped building on East Main Street, the picnic is over for the Longaberger Basket Company, whose employees will vacate the 180,000 square-foot, seven-story building by Friday.
At its peak, 500 employees worked at the facility, who will now move to another building a few miles away.
Right now, the future of the basket building is in limbo. Longaberger officials say there’s been interest in the site, but there’s also over half a million dollars owed in back property taxes.
Employees and fans have stopped by the building all week to say goodbye, take pictures, and close the lid on this chapter of Longaberger’s life.
