Wendy’s Changes Its Chicken

Wendy’s Changes Its Chicken

Did you ever watch those scary food documentaries about the way the fast food industry sources chicken? Well, Wendy’s has finally cut out their sourcing of mammoth chickens and are now going for “smaller birds” that will “improve the tenderness and juiciness of chicken for Wendy’s U.S.-based customers.”

Still, only 20% of their chicken will be smaller, likely for their chicken sandwiches which will remain the same size despite the smaller bird.

“The quality of our food sets us apart from everyone else,” said Todd Penegor, president and CEO at Wendy’s.  “We’re making this change because we’ve seen that smaller birds provide a big benefit for our customers who deserve to eat the most tender and juicy chicken.”

Although we can’t expect Wendy’s, a local company, to act with utmost purity, they might be better than most:

  • Wendy’s food is MSG-free, and free from any artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
  • Wendy’s ensures chicken suppliers provide carefully formulated and nutritional feed, access to clean water, adequate room to grow, veterinary oversight and proper handling
  • By the end of 2017, all of Wendy’s chicken will be free human antibiotics.
