Tantrum Theater will bring the fantasy and magic of Shakespeare’s most popular comedy to Dublin this summer with an innovative new staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream has remained timeless with its brilliant use of language and wit and its evergreen assurance that “The course of true love never did run smooth.” But perhaps part of the reason it’s captivated audiences for so long is its investigation into the complicated lines between dreams and reality, confusion and clarity.

In a plot rich with hilarity and mayhem, A Midsummer Night’s Dream envisions a world turned upside-down by the antics of mischievous fairies and the intoxicating spell of love. When four teens escape the oppressive control of parents and government, they soon discover the madness of a new and unfamiliar world governed by love, lust, and even a little bit of magic in the freedom of the forest.

“I’m interested in creating theater that introduces separate worlds and then examines the results when those worlds collide onstage,” said director Daniel C. Dennis, who will bring the enchanted world of midsummer to life along with scenic designer C. David Russell and costume designer Helene Siebrits.

The fusing of the rigid human world of the city and the wild fairy world of the forest will take place right before audiences’ eyes as the stage morphs from a muted color scheme to the colorful overgrowth of the fairy world.

Tantrum Theater’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from May 30 – June 17 in the Abbey Theater at the Dublin Community Recreation Center . For ticket information visit tantrumtheater.org.
