Friends, Romans, countrymen will gather for Julius Caesar performance in Schiller Park

Tomorrow, Actors’ Theatre of Columbus will open its 2017 season with Julius Caesar in the Schiller Park Amphitheatre . Although it is thought to have been written before the 17th century, it is a more relevant tale than ever. 

While writing Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare wrestled with political tension and chaos of the people. Similarly, today we live in a time of great political upheaval globally. Each new triumph ushers in a time of instability, uncertainty, and violence. Families ties and friendships are strained over ideological disputes that were never clearly highlighted until one faction or another takes power.

Using today’s influences and modern setting, the talented people of Actor’s Theatre will bring the production to life. Audiences will leave with new insight into the pressurized culture of honor, fame, war, and betrayal. 

This play, directed by Philip J. Hickman, Actors’ Theatre of Columbus is the first of an entire season titled “Privilege & Power.” It will explore some of the best-loved pieces of literature as well as rarely revived gems. “Privilege & Power” will run through June 18.  

“Julius Caesar is as relevant now as it was in Shakespeare’s day,” shares Hickman. “This powerful drama drives deeply into the intersection of power, governance, honor, and loyalty.”

ATC’s Caesar will feature Victor Little in the titular role, and Jennifer Feather Youngblood as Brutus.
