Former OSU Quarterback Ends Football Career

Stephen Collier, a now-former OSU Buckeye who played QB between 2014 – 2016 , has officially announced the end of his football career and the beginning of a “new dream.”

In a letter dedicated to the Buckeye Nation on LandOf10, he wrote, “When I tore my ACL this past spring, I couldn’t be upset for long, even though I knew it was happening to me at the worst possible time for my career. My recruiting class, the guys I came in with in 2014, bombarded me with phone calls and texts checking up on me, making sure I was all right. Parents of guys on the team sent me care packages, along with well-wishes from their respective families. Coaches, weight staff and trainers all did what they could to get me healthy, all while keeping me involved with the team. I wanted to contribute any way I could, so I was thrilled to have the chance to do that in 2016 on the sidelines….”

“Yes, it is hard to acknowledge that it’s time for me to hang up my cleats. There were opportunities to go elsewhere to keep living that dream, but why would I leave the greatest institution in the United States? That doesn’t make any sense at all.

Collier, who was a three-star recruit from Georgia, has just finished his bachelor’s degree at Ohio State and plans to finish his master’s degree as well — all the while helping out the Buckeye team behind the scenes.

Collier’s announcement comes after his spring injury that kept him from the 2016 season. Collier’s only action on field came against Hawaii in 2015 when he took three snaps.
