White Castle pondering massive redevelopment of HQ
The porcelain slider palace has been faced with a decision: Continue operations out of their headquarters at 555 Goodale Blvd., or take the city of Columbus up on their offer of a $65 million mixed-used development.
The new space would house the family-owned burger chain corporate offices, 150,000 sq-ft of Class A offices, and 300 apartments.
Although before White Castle can commit to the renovation, the Columbus operations have to increase.
This plan presented to City Council could also include a tax-increment financing district in which White Castle wouldn’t pay taxes but rather, pay the city for infrastructure. This latter item will be considered at the July 24 council meeting.
For more than a year now, White Castle has been in cahoots with Elford Development to brainstorm ideas for the redevelopment of the HQ. But, the fast food chain is open to working with other partners to bring this plan to life.
