Stop Panicking, We are NOT running out of Bacon
The Ohio Pork Council almost gave a shock-induced heart attack to bacon fans around the state and nation earlier this week.
They announced through a press release and even a website, a warning of a potentially declining U.S. bacon supply, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
The Dispatch reported that the, “Ohio Pork Council President Rich Deaton admitted to the New York Times that the press release was something of a marketing ploy, and he pointed to a line near the end in which he stated, “rest assured the pork industry will not run out of supply.”
So rest assured, if you read about bacon running out, don’t worry about rationing or losing your instant supply of breakfast magic – it’s not going to happen.
That being said, the pork council did have some rather sobering bacon facts – the U.S. reserves of frozen pork belly (yes, our nation stocks up on the stuff, it’s that good) stood at it’s lowest ever recorded amount, and though we’re not likely to run out of bacon, it is likely we’ll be paying more for it.
That’s better than no bacon, right?
