OG German Village casual diner closing
The original Max and Erma’s in German Village will serve their last bowl of tortilla soup on August 6.
The restaurant that started it all at 739 S Third St. is no longer capable of meeting the standards of Max & Erma’s guests. Columbus Business First spoke with the VP of the franchise, James Blystone, who said specifically ADA guests cannot be accommodated at the location. Blystone also added that costs and covenants of updating the building are not plausible.
After 45 years of being the flagship Max & Erma’s, Columbus Business First also reported that the property is being sold to 739 German Village LLC.
Brand leaders will remain in Columbus and there are no plans to close any other central Ohio location.
Max & Erma’s, a once 100 restaurant strong chain, has dwindled to only 39 stores.
German Village bids you and your delicious chocolate chip cookies farewell.
