Bipartisan Bill to Offer Protection to Victims of Dating Violence

An Ohio House bill sponsored by both Democratic and Republican representatives seeks to give protection to victims of dating violence.
Ohio, under current law, only recognizes domestic violence between spouses, family members or those living together for the purpose of seeking a protective order. Ohio is one of two states, the other Georgia — that does not consider victims of date violence the same as victims of domestic violence.
Under the new law, victims would get the same access to shelters — it would also require the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to insert the necessary information in a victim’s Bill of Rights pamphlet.
