Gov. John Kasich has rescheduled eight executions after a spat in the courts over the legality of Ohio’s lethal injection process has all but stalled.
Kasich’s announcement and rescheduling postpones executions that were were scheduled starting next week through May. It also moves seven others months into the future.
Kasich is confident Ohio will win the appeal in the court, but the timing of the arguments didn’t allow enough time to prepare for the next three executions in February, March and April.
The execution of Ronald Phillips has been moved from February 15, 2017 to May 10, 2017.
