Kasich Backs Education Secretary Nominee, DeVos

Governor John Kasich is backing Trump’s pick for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, according to NBC4i.

In a letter to Sen. Lamar Alexander, who chairs the committee that handled her confirmation, Kasich praised DeVos’ character, experience, and philosophy of limited government.

He did not mention DeVos’ $5.3 million in fines and penalties that she owes via All Children Matter PAC, a now-defunct political action committee she controlled.

Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown called for all fines to be repaid before her final confirmation.

Campaign finance records show that DeVos and her family gave Kasich’s campaigns for governor and president about $60,000.

The Devos family  also gave Ohio’s Sen. Rob Portman about $43,000 for his 2016 re-election bid.
