Ohio Targets Funding for Child Trafficking Victims
Monday Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a new program that will help state agents identify and intervene in situations that would result in children being trafficked for sex and labor.
State agents will work with local police and initiate training that helps identify vulnerable children, according to 10tv.
DeWine also announced 130,000 in funding for Amethyst, which houses women trafficking survivors and their children. The new funding will help house 12 survivors for two years.
“It’s everything, quite honestly,” said Lois Hochstetler of Amethyst, Inc. to 10tv “If you don’t have a safe place to live, you’re not going to be able to focus on the treatment and on getting better. A lot of the women have been trafficked fairly frequently and fairly recently. So if they don’t have a safe place to live away from their traffickers, they’re going to get back into the lifestyle very quickly.”
