Ohio thieves using tech to steal your card info at the pump

It’s not even safe to use your credit card at the gas pump anymore. Thieves are getting your card information using high-tech, bluetooth skimmers that they’ve snuck inside gas pumps. They’re able to access the insides of pumps using universal keys available online. Talk about unnerving..

They don’t even have to get out of their cars to hack into your money. These skimmers send card information to the thief’s computer as long as it’s within 300 feet.

Some store owners are taking action by installing locks to prevent the use of universal keys. Already, 30 of these skimmers have been discovered in Ohio, specifically in Cincinnati and Toledo back in February and March. So far, none have been reported in Franklin County.
