Columbus is six homicides away from the highest year on record. Holding the record now is 1991 when there were 139 murders.
A particularly heinous and troubling homicide occurred this past Wednesday.
A group of about 20 people were gathered on East Barthman Avenue for a candlelight vigil for man killed earlier in the week.
Then around 9pm, shots rang out.
The Dispatch reports one person at the vigil was killed in the drive-by shooting and three others were injured including a 9-year-old girl.
