#BlackPride4 dominate community hearing last night
The #BlackPride4 and 100ish of their closest confidants took hold of the public meeting last night at the Northland Performing Arts Complex. The hearing was prompted by Stonewall Columbus’ desire to give people the opportunity to voice their concerns about racism, transphobia, and homophobia.
Dressed in all black, over 100 LBGTQ people of color took the opportunity to support the four black Pride Parade protestors arrests.
“Stonewall should have done more. Drop the charges against the Black Pride 4,” they all chanted according to The Dispatch.
Ultimately, the group last night wanted Stonewall to fire their executive director, Karla Rothan, as well as the executive board. Rothan made no comments while in the presence of the #BlackPride4 members and supporters last night but once they all left, she said she had no intention of leaving.
Stonewall board member Jay Coleman thinks the protestors strong presence at the meeting was a productive way for them to be heard. Others believed the group acted aggressively.
The 100+ member group said they were planning to host their own meeting on July 24 at 6pm at the Columbus Metro Library’s Northside branch.
