Central Ohio Housing Market Set Record Highs, Lows

Last year, Central Ohio’s housing recovery set record highs for number of home sales, home prices, and sales pace.

31,532 Columbus-area homes were sold in 2016 in an average of 43 days, with an average price of $170,000, the most expensive average recorded by Columbus Realtors trade group, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The record highs were sobered by the fact that Central Ohio’s housing market is fairly small, with just over 4,000 homes listed at the end of 2016, which will take two months to sell out.

Sales and prices are now generally driven by the shortage of homes on the market, “With the highest sales and prices, yet the lowest inventory, 2016 was indeed a year of record highs and record lows for the Columbus region,” said Columbus Realtors President Mic Gordon to the Dispatch. “Many houses are selling almost as quickly as they come on the market.”
