Columbus LGBT mag, Outlook, suspends publication, editor arrested with hard drugs

“The Voice of Ohio’s GLBT & Ally Community” mag has gone hoarse.

The long-running, Columbus-based magazine,  Outlook Ohio, has suspended publication, making many wonder if it’s going out of business for good. Their last issue was printed in May and no employees are in the office.

Rumors have started to stir after two major events:

  1. Their annual June event, “Out With Our Elected Officials” was canceled.
  2. This is the doozy.. Outlook editor-in-chief and art director, Christopher Hayes, was arrested on July 3 for methamphetamines and oxycodone hydrochloride.

He was arrested in Parkersburg, WV and is still being held on a $100,000 bond.

The magazine’s sales director, Mike Moffa, refused to make a comment to The Dispatch. We called their offices and were sent straight to a voice mailbox that was not accepting messages.

Former associate publisher and ad director, Chad Frye, didn’t exactly say Outlook has hung it up but he did tell the dispatch, “It appears to have fizzled out.”

Outlook Ohio began in 1996 as a newspaper for the Columbus area that catered to the GLBT & allied community. It grew to weekly tabloid then to its latest form as a monthly magazine. It is distributed in 2000 of Ohio’s metro areas including Cbus, CLE, Cincinnati, and Toledo.
