Columbus Zoo Announces Free Admission on Presidents’ Day

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will continue its tradition of offering free admission on Presidents’ Day, the federal holiday created in honor of the nation’s first president, George Washington. The offer will be valid during operating hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Feb. 20, 2017. Standard parking fees ($10 per vehicle; free for Zoo members) will still apply.

“The Columbus Zoo is home to many animals that have come to represent the United States, such as the bald eagle–our national symbol–and the North American bison, our national mammal. It is also home to animals, like the Florida manatee, whose populations are recovering following federally backed protections,” said Tom Stalf, president and CEO of the Columbus Zoo. “As we honor our nation’s history, the Zoo is a great place to learn more about our country’s relationship with wildlife conservation initiatives.”

Coincidentally, Presidents’ Day was signed into law in 1879 by President Rutherford B. Hayes, who was born in Delaware, Ohio – about 13 miles north of the Columbus Zoo.

Open year-round, the Columbus Zoo has much to see even in the winter months. From the comfort of indoor viewing areas, guests can visit the gorillas in Congo Expedition; the wombat and other nocturnal animals in the Australia and Islands region; iguanas, snakes and turtles in the Reptile Building; manatees, stingrays and sharks in Manatee Coast and the Discovery Reef and Aquarium; langur monkeys and the sloth bear in Asia Quest; and more. Additionally, the animals living in the North America region are particularly playful during the colder months.  

Although the 4-D Theater is closed for the winter season, there will be screenings of “Ice Age: The 4-D Experience!” and “Happy Feet: 4-D Experience!” on Feb. 20. (Additional fees apply.)
