Columbus Zoo’s Doug the mandrill joins Harambe in primate heaven
Doug, a 22-year-old mandrill at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, is romping around with Harambe in primate heaven. Doug was euthanized Tuesday because of his rapidly declining health.
He beat the odds and lived more than a year longer than expected from his species.
Doug came to the zoo in 2013 and fathered two sons there. His keepers say he was a very patient and protective father.
“He also loved to paint!” the Columbus Zoo said in a Facebook post. “He was a talented artist and created many masterpieces to raise funds for conservation. He loved to rub the water-based, tempera paint on his face and chest, and he really liked bright pink, turquoise and green.”
Nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah-nah, hey-hey-hey.. Goodbye Doug. You will be sorely missed.
