Do you even love your dog if you haven’t gotten them a flu shot?

Do you even love your dog if you haven’t gotten them a flu shot?

Did you know dogs can get the flu? Did you know they can get flu shots to prevent it just like humans?

Maybe you have a Jenny McCarthy-way of thinking but the fact is more doggy day cares, boarders, and groomers are requiring dogs to be vaccinated against canine influenza before they can be accepted.

Though no cases of doggy flu have been documented in Ohio this year, there have been 87 confirmed H3N2 Canine Influenza cases in Ohio since March of 2015. Without proper vaccinations, the virus has potential to develop into life-threatening pneumonia. An outbreak recently happened in Chicago and animal health experts say it’s only a matter of time before it creeps into Ohio.

You may be thinking, Now why the hell would I get my dog a flu shot when I myself don’t even get them?

Dog people are a passionate crew and we’re venturing a guess that if you identify with this group, there are times–many times– where you give your dog better treatment than you give yourself (i.e. when was the last time your dog went to the groomer vs. the last time you got your hair or nails done?).

If you notice your pup coughing, sneezing, having a runny nose, losing their appetite, running a fever, breathing rapidly, or being lethargic, it may be time to consider a canine flu shot.
