Family of man shot by police in Franklinton react to body cam footage

Yesterday, police body camera footage was released of two officers shooting a man in Franklinton. Kareem Jones later died from his injuries.

Jones’ family is left with so many unanswered questions after reviewing the footage. Most noteworthy, they are wondering why there is no audio of the events leading up to the actual shooting. Sound was captured on camera only after shots were fired.

Allegedly, right before cops showed up, Jones was helping a woman find some neighborhood kids who were throwing rocks.

His family questions how a good deed turned deadly so quickly.

Marica Phipps, Jones’ older sister, said that if her brother really did have a gun, like police are reporting, cops should have used a taser before resorting to shooting him with bullets.

His mother, Marcy Bailey thinks police protocols have to change so mothers don’t have to go through what she’s going through now.

Jones did have a criminal record and his sister said he was on probation at the time of the incident.

He is a father of four children.
