The American Lung Association’s 2017 State of the Air report had detected unhealthy levels of smog and ozone in the Franklin County area.
Although Columbus had some of the fewest days of high ozone and particle pollution, those high pollution days are weighted higher in the report. This means that while smog and ozone might not be high very often, those days when it is high are particularly unhealthy.
In spite of this failing grade, Franklin County passed with an “A” rating for for particle pollution during the average day and annual readings.
