Hey Cbus, where are we supposed to take recyclables?

If there was ever a bad time to be a recycler in Columbus, it’s now. Since many public recycling receptacles were removed from the city last month, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio has come up with a temporary solution.

On July 1, SWACO ended a 10-year relationship with Columbus City Schools that created public recycling locations for city residents. ThisWeekNews reported that SWACO couldn’t justify the ever-growing cost of the program. Many public recycling containers were removed from Columbus City School property, leaving neighborhoods in a lurch. Clintonville for example went from 26 containers down to only two.

Some people are pissed about it.

So now, a month later, SWACO is offering residents additional curbside recycling bins for half off as a way to help fill holes that were left gaping when the aforementioned partnership ended. Instead of $40.76 +tax, you’d pay $22. This deal is only good through October 1 for the first 100 households to request a container.

If you’re not hip to purchasing your own recycling vessel, your drop-off options may be limited.

If you’re from Clintonville, sorry about your lucky but there’s only one drop zone at Charity Newsies, 4300 Indianola Ave. Northland is in the same boat with only one location at Sharon Woods Metro Park. Altogether inside the I-270 loop, there are 27 public recycling drop-offs according to the map on SWACO’s website.
