King of Columbus City Schools steps down from throne

Columbus City Schools Superintendent Dan Good will enter into retirement come December.

This announcement, which came this morning, will not affect the new school year kicking off in just a couple weeks.

In mid-2013, Good was unanimously voted into the interim superintendent position of Columbus City Schools, reports the Dispatch. On January 2014, he officially took over the role. Before that, he was superintendent of Westerville schools from 2008 to 2013.

“I am grateful for the leadership Dr. Good provided to Columbus City Schools,” said Mayor Ginther in a press release. “He took charge of Ohio’s largest school district at a particularly challenging time and helped restore its integrity. Under Dan’s guidance, the district expanded its number of high-quality pre-kindergarten seats and significantly improved third-grade reading scores.”

His former employer had some kind words to send off Good, as well.
