Man charged with assault for knowingly passing along HIV to girlfriend
A Westerville man has been arrested and charged with assault for having sex with a woman despite knowing he had HIV.
Thorsha Cartharn, 39, began a relationship with a 39-year-old woman in February. She noticed his prescription medications when she took him to the hospital once. She researched the meds and learned they were used to treat HIV. She contacted the Columbus Health Department for testing. The Westerville Division of Police began investigating soon after and issued a warrant for Cartharn’s arrest.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar case earlier this month in Toledo. A HIV-positive man passed along the virus to his girlfriend who later tied from AIDS related complications.
If you or anybody you know has been sexually involved with Cartharn since 2015, please contact the Westerville Division of Police Investigations tipline at 614-901-6866 or tipline@westerville.org.
