Man gets life sentence for killing friend over broken bong

Nicholas D. Kean will spend at least 15 years behind bars for stabbing his friend to death over a broken bong. The court gave him a life sentence with no chance at parole for 15 years.

John Barnett was 21 years old when he died.

The two had been friends for six years but a petty fight turned deadly.

Kean accused Barnett of breaking his bong– a fight that took to Facebook, phone calls, and eventually the intersection of Briggs Rd and Binns Blvd on the West side. That is where Kean stabbed Barnett to death.

Kean, a former alter boy, told the jury he was acting in self-defense but they didn’t buy it.
