New study will send Ohio HS grads sprinting for workforce

Ohio ranks first in a lot of really awesome things but recently, our #1 ranking is quite cringe-worthy. According to a recent WalletHub study, Ohio is the very worst state as far as the burden of college debt goes.

The index calculated the weight of debt using 10 measures of indebtedness and earning opportunities, reports the Dispatch.

If WalletHub’s scoring was like football, Ohio would be in good standings. But unfortunately, it works more like golf where the lowest score is the most desirable.

Ohio scored a 64.25. Hawaii, the lowest scorer, came in with 14.44.

Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst and Ohio State University graduate told The Dispatch that Ohio’s class of 2015 has the 10th highest average student debt at over $30,000 per student and 8 percent of Ohioans age 50+ still have student loan debt. Both of those stats were among the highest in the nation.
