Orange barrel city coming to downtown I-70/I-71 corridor

Get ready for orange barrel city on the I-70/I-71 corridor.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, “The project will construct a new wider and longer bridge at Grant Avenue as well as improve Mound Street and Fulton Avenue. The improvements to Mound St. will occur between 4th Street and High Street and includes granite curbs, brick crosswalks, decorative signals, lighting and landscaping.Fulton Street will be one-way eastbound from 4th to Washington.”

Here are the closures and detours:

  • The ramp from Main St. to I-71 is now closed and will be for the next nine months at least although the change may be permanent
  • Today, July 17, Fulton St. will be closed between 4th St. and Engler for six months. One way eastbound traffic will be open from 5th St. to Grant. Two-way traffic on Fulton will be open between Grant and School Facility Dr.
  • Suggested detour around the aforementioned work: Westbound Fulton traffic will take Mount to 3rd and eastbound traffic will use 4th to Main to Washington.

According to ODOT, the reasoning behind this project is to “fix the biggest safety and congestion problems along the interstate 70/71 downtown corridor.”
