OSU professor taps into Ibuprofen’s full, baby-saving potential
Ibuprofen is well known for its healing powers as a pain reliever, but one Ohio State professor has tugged it into the limelight after finding out its untapped potential.
In a recent study conducted by Ohio State psychology professor, Derick Lindquist, Ibuprofen was found to have a reversing affect on lab rats that were exposed to alcohol when they were fetuses (i.e. the mom rat consumed alcohol while pregnant).
It’s still too young to tell if Ibuprofen will be a breakthrough in fetal alcohol exposure in humans but this is definitely a glimmer of hope.
Experts estimate that one out of every 100 births result in fetal alcohol exposure. The Center for Disease and Control states effects such as trouble learning, remembering and paying attention.
