Women’s basketball could bring $20 million to city

For the first time, Columbus will host the NCAA women’s Final Four at Nationwide Arena in March. Columbus is looking to pull in about $20 million in visitor spending during the competition. Cha-ching.

Three of the reasons Columbus was chosen to host this year are:

  • Strong support of women’s sports
  • Plenty of hotel accommodations
  • Technological advancements and size of Nationwide Arena

Linda Logan, executive director of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, estimates that 40,000 fans and 3,000 members of Women’s Basketball Coaches Association the will turn out for the tournament and related events. It’ll fall on a three-day weekend which will help boost numbers.
