Would you fake your husband’s death for PTO? She may have

A former Westerville elementary teacher is being accused of putting on a four-year charade of fake deaths and cancer diagnoses in order to cash in.

In 2013, Christine Gill, 47, of Pataskala took paid leave, claiming her husband had died of brain cancer she needed time to cope. But he wasn’t dead at all and from The Dispatch’s report, it seems he wasn’t even in on the gig. After he was supposed to have died, he was renewing his driver’s license, voting, and selling personal property.

To boot, Gill told her coworkers she was battling cancer of her own in 2016 and needed additional time off. She of course didn’t have cancer.

Westerville school officials thought the situation was a bit fishy and decided to get police involved. That’s when Gill’s tangled web of lies was unraveled. They estimate that she collected more than $52,000 in salary and benefits during the whole ordeal.

The Dispatch reports that she put on the ruse due to her post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from an incident in 2012 when a student cut her with a pocket knife. She claims the principal insisted she not report the incident and did not carry out any disciplinary measures with the student.

Read about all the weird details at The Dispatch.
