Wendy’s Hiring Burger Bots to Replace Cashiers

Wendy’s has said it has plans to robots that will take your order at around 1,000 locations — these self-serving kiosks will allow customers to circumvent long lines during lunch and dinner.

A typical location would spend $15,000 for three kiosks, The Columbus Dispatch reported and big volume stores will have priority. Reportedly there will be 1,000 locations with the kiosks by the end of the year.

Customers will still be able to order at the counter. Wendy’s is specifically looking out to shift labor to other areas in lieu of having front of the house cashiers — they also want to counter the rise of wages.

The robo-servers are an attempt to appeal to younger generations as well as obviously reducing labor costs.

“They are looking to improve their automation and their labor costs, and this is a good way to do it,” said Darren Tristano according to 10tv. Tristano is vice president with Technomic, a food-service research and consulting firm. “They are also trying to enhance the customer experience. Younger customers prefer to use a kiosk.”
