OSU law professor claims Columbus school violated constitutional rights

Ruth Colker, a law professor from The Ohio State University claims that a Columbus school violated citizens first amendment rights.

In two separate instances, a group of people gathered to hand out leaflets on the sidewalk outside of a Columbus elementary school. The leaflets came as a response of an alleged report ICE agents arrested and deported a parent dropping their child off. They detailed, in Spanish, immigration rights and details of where to find local legal resources.

Both times the groups were asked to leave by the school’s principal, who also threatened to call security.

“There’s a Supreme Court case that says that the public sidewalk adjacent to a public school is what we call a public forum,” Colker told WOSU.
